About Indigo Dyeing

Aizome is a dyeing technique using the plant dye “indigo,” and the dyed fabric itself is sometimes called aizome, which has been familiar to the Japanese since ancient times.

In Japan, “indigo” was the main dye relied on for dyeing until chemical dyes were imported from overseas after the Meiji Era (1868-1912).

In Japan, there are dyeing artisans in various regions, each with different techniques.

We hope you will find your favorite work.
